nudity Two men are seen kissing for at least 5 seconds before they fall back onto a bed Rimbaud is seen standing outside a window naked with clothes covering his genitals as he throws them out onto the street one article at a time. The last piece of clothing he throws causes the viewers to see a full frontal image of him for not even a second before the camera quickly cuts to show his full backside. Rimbaud and Verlaine have sex with close ups of the actors' faces. You can see Rimbaud's face pulling hard in and out of frame as Verlaine is shown face down moaning. Rimbaud then lays his head on Verlaine's and the scene is then cut to the two character's in bed as one is asleep and the other one watches him. Two men are seen cuddling up to each other in bed; you can see one man's whole bare side as he lies sleeping A woman is seen breast feeding an infant (no nudity is shown) A man and a woman have sex. You can see her breasts, butt and a couple of quick glances of her pubic area. Later on it shows her getting dressed as her breasts are shown almost entirely throughout the scene. A man locks his arms around another man and kisses him briefly on a beach Two men get into a physical fight while one of them is naked. You can see full frontal and backside nudity briefly. One man gets a physical examination; his bare butt can be seen A graphic sex scene between a man and a woman, the scene lasts only a few seconds but the woman's breasts and butt are shown. A man who had his leg amputated is shown lying face down on the floor naked. His genitals can be seen for a brief moment as well as his whole backside. Although the movie isn't just about a gay relationship between two poets the love scenes and nude scenes throughout the movie are rather graphic. This is not a movie for DiCaprio's younger fans to watch/
violence Rimbaud threatens several men with a cane before it is revealed to be a sword. Another man ends up getting cut by it (no blood is shown). Rimbaud stabs Verlaine in the hand with a knife. The knife is seen going in as blood starts pouring from the Verlaines hand. The scene is quite graphic Verlaine grabs his pregnant wife's hair and violently pushes her to the floor causing her to go into labor Verlaine strongly shoves a baby carriage with his child in it causing it to slam hard into the wall. When his wife tries to get to the baby he pins her down and uses a candle to set her hair on fire then restrains her to allow her hair to burn before letting her go. Two men are seen in the background of a Bar fighting Two men gets into a physical brawl in a hotel room Rimbaud tries to leave but is forced to stay in a hotel room by Verlaine who is drunk and has a gun pointing at Rimbaud. He ends up shooting Rimbaud in the hand (the hole in his hand is shown and blood is seen) Rimbaud is seen in a hospital having a bullet removed from his hand. A brief moment is shown of his hand while they try to remove the it as Rimbaud screams and moans with pain
profanity Several uses of the f word, damn, hell, shit, piss, and 2 uses of the c word
alcohol Rimbaud is seen smoking a pipe throughout the movie (he does this through the ages of 16-19) Verlaine is an alcoholic in the movie and is seen drinking quite a lot Verlaine and Rimbaud are both seen drinking Absinthe (an alcohol beverage that is illegal in most countries due to its side effects) In one scene, Rimbaud and Verlaine are seen smoking hash A lot of extras are seen drinking and smoking throughout the movie
frightening Verlaine is an alcoholic in the movie and usually becomes violent when he is intoxicated. The scenes with him being abusive to his wife are quite crude as well as the scene where he tries to keep Rimbaud from leaving him in the hotel room. The scene where Rimbaud stabs Verlaine through the hand with a knife is quite graphic.
