nudity References to reproduction being unpleasant on the planet K-PAX. Mention of testicles. It is said that a man's wife was raped and killed. Her corpse can be briefly seen tied to the bed. A husband and wife wake up in the middle of the night in their bed. The man is not wearing a shirt, and the woman is not wearing a shirt either but nothing is shown of her breast (yet its clear from the camera shot in the dark shadows that she is not wearing anything and her breasts are almost shown).
violence A man's wife is said to have been raped and killed. Her bloody corpse is seen in a flashback. His children's dead bodies are also briefly seen. Mild blood and gore. A positive character strangles a mental patient with a pillow because the protagonist instructs him to do so. (It is a successful treatment of his phobias.) A man is shown committing suicide by drowning himself to a river. An alien possesses his body. After the alien leaves, the man is still alive but catatonic.
profanity Quite heavy for a film rated '12'. One use of the f-word. About 11 uses of "shit". One time a character is heard saying, "Oh shit, oh shit, oh shit, oh shit, oh shit". Other milder profanities, such as ass, crap, damn, hell, and bitch.
alcohol Some civilized drinking/smoking. Protagonists shown drinking a small amount of hard liquor. There are characters in the movie who have wine with their dinner and have beer at a backyard bbq. Nothing heavy is shown, and there are no intoxicated people.
frightening Some emotionally intense scenes. The story takes place in a mental institute and features several mental patients. The flashback scenes involving the rape/murder of a man's family (see Sex & Nudity and Violence & Gore) are very emotionally disturbing and intense. Prot has a mildly violent and traumatic breakdown, which is triggered by a backyard sprinkler coming on (we learn later in the movie why this is), he is tackled and restrained by 2 large men, and a woman comes running up with a hypodermic needle, supposedly containing a tranquilizer, to calm him. However, he snaps out of it and the needle is not necessary. May be a little frightening for younger children.
