Length: 124 Minute(s)
This is the story of three gentle persons: Paul Rivers an ailing mathematician lovelessly married to an English émigré, Christina Peck, an upper-middle-class suburban housewife, happily married and mother of two little girls, and Jack Jordan, an ex-convict who has found in his Christian faith the strength to raise a family. They will be brought together by a terrible accident that will change their lives. By the final frame, none of them will be the same as they will learn harsh truths about love, faith, courage, desire and guilt, and how chance can change our worlds irretrievably, forever.

Movie Parental Guide

nudity Sex/Nudity: 9/10 A man is shown laying on his stomach naked, his behind is briefly shown. A man and a woman are shown having sex. Her bare breasts are visible. He fondles both her breasts and sucks on her nipples. He then goes down on her and oral sex is implied, but not shown. There is a close up scene of her nipples. Another man and woman are shown having sex on a dresser, they are clothed but the scene is explicit. We see a man squeezing a woman's (clothed) breasts. A man is provided with gloves and a cup in a fertility clinic; he is then handed porn magazines and a brief, but explicit, porn scene is shown on TV for him. A man and a woman are lying on bed in the beginning of the movie and one of the breast of the woman is shown as she is lying on the bed.
violence A gun is shown in several scenes. A man threatens another man with a gun, forcing him to kneel and then shoots. We later find out that he shot the ground, not the man. One man gets shot and bleeds all over the place. A lot of blood is shown later on including on the clothes and hands of the character who tried to help him. There is also a physical attack where a woman beats a man with a lamp. The aftermath of a bad car accident is shown with bodies covered with blood-stained white sheets. A man steps on broken glass and his bloody foot is shown. A man heats a knife and cuts into his skin with it. A man hangs himself, starts gagging and gasping for air when he falls down and is saved. A man forces his son to hit his sister's "other" arm after she complains about getting hit (citing Jesus's "turn the other cheek"). He later strikes the son a couple of times in the head.
profanity 25 f-words (24 derogatory and 1 sexual), 8 uses of sh*t, 4 derisive names using body parts; profanity consisting of 4 uses of damn and 1 derogatory use of Jesus Christ. A person engages in what can be seen by some as "blasphemy" when he starts blaming Jesus for betraying him and getting him into trouble.
alcohol Lots of smoking by the main characters, including a transplant patient. A woman (who we find out has recovered from addiction) is shown purchasing drugs and she is recommended some new pills; she is shown snorting cocaine a couple of times and popping the pills. Alcohol is shown frequently and consumed by many throughout the movie. A woman is shown getting aggressive and intending to drive after drinking (she is later stopped).
frightening Two little girls die in an accident and even though we do not see the accident or the bodies, we see them laying on the street covered with blood-stained white sheets. The little girls' mother's reaction to their death, going back to the house, washing their bloody cloths and looking at their room are emotionally intense and can seriously disturb some viewers.
